I feel like a lot of people are overlooking what makes the Unreal Engine 5 demo great. Sure, it looks amazing visually but what's more impressive to me is why it looks amazing.
You've got Nanite tech which appears to make pop-in a thing of the past and Lumen appears to be Ray-Tracing lite. Both of these are truly innovative technologies but I don't see a lot of people talking about either one in my Twitter feed or in my group of friends.
Another disappointing aspect is how many people are using this demo to further their console warrior agenda. Playstation fans are using this tech demo to mock May's Inside Xbox showcase despite the fact that this tech demo in not comparable to an actual game.
Xbox fans are, of course, using the fact that the demo was using some sort of dynamic resolution (they mainly sat around 1440) and was only 30 FPS as some sort of sign of how under powered the PS5 is despite the fact the demo was not meant to show off the power of the PS5.
Both sides are so wrapped up in their console wars that they are ignoring what the tech demo was actually for and that is to show the technology Epic has made to allow developers to make better looking and better performing games.
I'm sure if the tech demo got some proper optimisation it could have been 4K or 60FPS (or both) for the majority of the demo but that distracts from the actual development of both the engine and other Epic games.
As for the Inside Xbox showcase, I agree that it wasn't a very good showcase of the power of next gen (except for a few exceptions) but you have to remember that most of those games were in development way before they got their hands on dev kits.
I know not many people are going to read this thread but I just thought I had to get it off my chest.

I think today's announcement is amazing, not because of the visuals or even the actual demo but what it means for future games that use Unreal Engine.
