got7 breaking / challenging gender norms in fashion ; an important thread ✨✨
disclaimer: some of these might not be considered to y’all as ‘breaking gender norms’ but i chose times where got7 wore outfits that were uncommon for MEN, not just idols. the outfits worn in these are not the norm for men all over the world to wear, hence challenging the norm.
1. mark in The Star magazine
2. jaebeom for MAPS 2016
the tops might be a norm but the shorts paired with those glitter heeled shoes is def not something you would usually see
3. jaebeom for BLING magazine
4. jackson for men’s uno
i think men wearing items that signify / relate to bondage or items like chokers and crops is smt that is def uncommon
5. yugyeom in got7 naver x dispatch
yugyeom’s style has always been slightly more soft and towards the side of lace, mesh or floral items with light tones. the glitter turtle neck and mesh shirt is not a common pairing that you’ll see men dare to wear
6. bambam on this stage ( forgot when it was but pic creds to og owner )
bambam has always been daring with his fashion choices and the fact that he wore this while performing in front of a crowd - with those high heels, tight leather pants and completely mesh top - displays it
7. got7 performing gg songs
although this may be for a concert, it would still take a lot to be willing to fully dress as a woman and dance and sing their songs. most men would freak at even having to wear a skirt, much less a dress and stockings.
8. bambam during nbtm era
tbh i feel that bambam became really daring and expressive with his style this comeback. he wore glitter makeup on his cheeks, had pearls and lace and mesh in his outfits and went for a more feminine // light feel in general
9. bambam in lullaby era
another instance where bambam wore makeup that challenged the norm. he had bright orange blush for most of the stages, along with a beret. while it’s common for some men and most idols to have blush, this orange blush was smt that mostly women go for
end of thread ! im pretty sure that there are more instances, esp for yj and jy, but i couldn’t recall any other times while i was looking for pics.
just wanted to say that i’m very proud of got7 for being brave with their fashion and that they are respectful men !!
