HJR 1040 has been put on the House floor agenda for tomorrow. This bill was a request from anti-vaxxers. Its purpose is to pull back a health dept. rule designed to help parents make informed choices about vaccines.
The rules were proposed by the health dept. to counter vast anti-vaccine propaganda on social media.
The rules do not change vaccine exemptions already available in Oklahoma. Anyone can opt out for religious, personal or medical reasons.
Anti-vaxxers will tell you number of people who opt out is so small it doesn’t really matter. Doctors say they’re dead wrong.
The current immunization rate for babies ages 18-35 months is 67%. This means more than 1/3 of babies aren’t fully protected from preventable diseases.
These babies start school unvaccinated or undervaccinated. They attend school with my kid. With your kid, too. All because their parents believed what they heard from social media shysters when they should’ve asked a doctor.
Why the #okleg would even consider HJR 1040 is beyond me. We’re in a pandemic. We don’t need any other outbreaks, thank you very much.
None the less, it will be heard tomorrow, so I’m asking ... please, reach out to your House members and ask them to VOTE NO on HJR1040. -end-
