THREAD: I wanna give some context about @MoneyLynch appearance at the charity soccer game a few years back because I’ve seen the video circulate online every now & then but the backstory highlights why Marshawn is special.

Here is what happened & it’s why i say he’s a legend 1/9
I reached out to Marshawn thru a really good mutual friend we have. Normally, it takes a few emails and calls to convince someone of that level to give up their day and come to your event. Once he knew the cause would benefit the youth, it took one text for him to say yes. 2/9
We advertized it online with his face & name & the buzz began to build. Tickets sold really well right away. A few weeks before the event, he signs for the Raiders and announces his comeback. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤦🏿‍♂️" title="Man facepalming (dark skin tone)" aria-label="Emoji: Man facepalming (dark skin tone)"> Logically he has to back out but i was too scared to actually ask him & confirm 3/9
His NFL contract wasn’t gonna allow him to play in a soccer game where he could get injured & jeopardize the comeback he just worked so hard for. I gave it a 10% chance that we’d have him at our game. 4/9
We kept advertizing his appearance but I had a press release saved in my email drafts announcing that he had to pull out because of his comeback. Every day i waited for the phone call. It never came. But neither did the final confirmation that he was still coming. 5/9
I never spoke to him between the very first time he confirmed and the day of our event. On the day of the event i spoke to his mum @MommaLynch24 on Twitter DM and she told me she’d “make sure” he got on the plane to Seattle from Cali. Lol she’s a legend too. 6/9
Only an hour before kick off did we get confirmation. The mutual friend phoned me & said he’d just picked up Marshawn & was bringing him. He showed up, did the cameo appearance in flip flops, interacted with fans, bought nachos at the food truck on site and then he flew home. 7/9
He flew himself to the event. We never paid him a dime, we never paid for his car from the airport. Nothing. His exact words to me were “once i give you my word, I’ll never back out. Especially not when there’s youth involved.” 8/9
I want people to realize that he flew 2.5 hours each way just to be with us for the game. Without an appearance fee. Airport to the field & back to the airport. And the next day on Monday morning he did another community event in Oakland. That’s why he’s a legend. 9/9
A few months later we ended up at the same party in Seattle & the first thing he said to me before we toasted champagne was “man, I still can’t believe y’all really run 9 miles every game. Soccer ain’t for me.” — this was 3 months after the game. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤣" title="Rolling on the floor laughing" aria-label="Emoji: Rolling on the floor laughing">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤣" title="Rolling on the floor laughing" aria-label="Emoji: Rolling on the floor laughing"> (Bonus)
