I totally think what happened with Trump was he started a fake run for POTUS to:

1. Get another series of his crappy TV show
2. Boost his brand generally

Then, when it began to take off because of the idiots, he realised he could start moving illegal campaign donations through his scrotty hotels and started doing that while also stealing the money to do gak and fuck various women.

Then the thing got bigger and he took more and more from the US and abroad - places like Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE or something - and now his tax returns are a mess of shady bullshit cash (probably from known criminals and oligarchs) that's gone into his political campaigns.

Eventually we'll find out he was broke as shit and that his crappy company finances, his campaign finances and his general adult movie actress-banging money all overlapped to a hilarious extent.
