My youngest sister collapsed yesterday morning, turned out she had multiple blood clots in her legs and lungs. They did emergency surgery, it took almost all day, and they are doing a second procedure tonight to remove more clots from her lungs.
They were concerned about brain damage and they didn't know if they could save her legs.
She has been intubated and on a MI coma since yesterday morning.
They saved her life, and saved her legs, but she may lose both feet. Also, They woke her up briefly today and she was...
... able to write a sentence with a pencil and paper, so they now believe she escaped brain damage. She's in the OR now and they are removing the remaining clots in her lungs. They will decide about her feet tomorrow.
They tested her for covid when she came in, but it was one of the quick tests, with a 5 minute result, and evidently the hospital doesn't completely trust that test, because they tested her again and sent the results to a different lab, results in 3 days.
She's in a Michigan hospital. Her husband can't be with her, nor anyone else, so it's agonizing.
Her vitals were all good today, so things are better than yesterday. Hopefully, tonight goes well. Please keep her in your prayers
🙏🏻
Also, nothing like this has ever happened to anyone in our family, and none of my friends.
If you have a friend or family member or experience with blood clots like that, please tell me your story. Thank you so much.
I'm overwhelmed with all the support, and thank you for sharing with me. ❤
Here's the update, She's got more blood clots in her lungs and legs and feet already today. Too many to even count. They can't do another surgery on her because her legs are still...
...too swollen, and They added a 3rd anti-coagulant and none of them are working.
They are treating her as if this was COVID, They think the fitst test was wrong. The results from the 2nd test should be back from the lab by tomorrow
She is presenting In a way that they are starting to see across the country. We are beside ourselves. She's only 50. Thank you all again for your prayers and good thoughts ❤❤❤❤
I have an update on my sister, She had a second procedure today to remove clots in her legs.
Her feet are warm and the blood circulation looks good in both her feet and her legs, so that is a huge blessing.
She is in post surgical ICU resting comfortably, good vitals.
The COVID results aren't in yet, and no news on her lungs.
Her nurse said my sister may be able to make a phone call tomorrow. They're going to bring her a phone so she can call her husband. Yay!
Update #3 Her 2nd COVID test was negative, now the doctors aren't sure what's wrong. The circulation in her feet dropped down, doesn't look good. She is still producing clots in her legs.
She was awake most of the day, and they are managing her pain
So here is today's update: The hospital staff has told my brother-in-law to not get a false sense of security over the 2nd COVID test being negative, this is common.
The blood circulation and her feet dropped down and they put some kind of boots on her.
They are going to close the long incisions in her legs next week, They no longer need to keep those open. Yay!
The other positives are that they no longer have to keep her on a tube. She was able to have a long phone conversation today and has been talking with her nurses, and they may be able to move her to regular ICU week.
She has been awake and alert all day. That's just a wonderful thing. Thank you so much for your continued prayers, good thoughts, and support. ❤
Today's update, Still no results on the 3rd covid test, but her kidneys have responded to the drugs they've been giving her, and she won't need dialysis. Yay!
No news on her feet, but she is definitely better.
No guess yet on when she's going home, and she may need a rehab place after the hospital, not sure on that yet either. My whole family thanks you all for the prayers, positive vibes and support. ❤❤❤❤❤
Day 7 update: Still no results on new COVID test, so no official diagnosis yet.
Her body isn't producing clots anymore, and her feet are both better today. It seems we are moving toward the idea she will definitely keep her feet.
She's still in surgical ICU, but she is definitely better, and her doctors are starting to talk about her care and recovery post-hospital. She's definitely getting better 😃👏
Thank you all for caring ❤
It's been almost 2 weeks at my sister's been in the hospital. They still haven't been able to close up her left leg but it is only because of swelling, they don't want to run the risk of sutures breaking open.
She is definitely out of any kind of risk. She is definitely keeping her feet. She is feeling infinitely better, sounding like her old self.
Her new COVID tests are "inconclusive", so they are now testing her a 5th time.
She is going to have a long recovery, whatever it is that's wrong with her. But she is going to recover fully so that is the good news. She will also have to go to a rehab hospital, but we were expecting that.
If we ever get a firm diagnosis, I will add that, otherwise I'm going to end this thread. Thank you for your prayers, your candles lit, your positive thoughts, and the Reiki shrine. It was all good vibes out into the universe, and she is going to come home ❤
