As some truly sobering job figures are released, the Liberals have just voted in the Senate to take away one of the most basic rights of workers - their right to a fair amount of time to consider and seek advice on Enterprise Bargaining Agreements #auspol
The Greens strongly oppose this change of the EBA notive period from 7 days to 24 hours and the many other terrible agenda items the Liberals are trying to tick off - shamefully using this global pandemic as cover for their opportunism.
EBA’s can be complicated & difficult to understand. 24hrs is not enough time for an informed vote. Workers are being denied the time to adequately consider the impact of proposed changes and organise with their colleagues or access support or advice from their union.
This change further further disenfranchises workers and widens the power imbalance between them and their employers. Workers will be put under extreme pressure to agree in a day to changes that could last for years.
The Greens always have and will continue to oppose the Liberals’ nasty attacks on workers. They are a party of big business, and workers’ rights are a mere inconvenience to you. The Greens will always defend the rights of workers.
