Well, I hope you guys aren’t sick of hearing about my good fortune.

This one is a bit of a doozy brought to you by a stolen bike from last November, and a group of #YEG bike enthusiasts with a thirst for justice.
Our garage was broken in to 7 months ago and two of our fairly new Norco bikes were stolen. We had previously registered our bikes on @BikeIndex (if you haven’t done that with your bike, stop reading this and do it now). #yeg @bikeedmonton
Within a day of listing them as stolen we received tips from strangers that my husband’s was being advertised for sale online. @EdmontonPolice online crimes unit investigated and recovered that bike. #yeg
But it’s been months since then and I’ve been hoping to see mine for sale online but haven’t. I actually started shopping for a new bike this morning... I can’t believe this timing. #yeg
This evening I started getting texts from a stranger. “Hello did you ever recover your bike?” “I think I see someone riding your bike.” They said they’re a part of a group called @stolenbikesyeg. #yeg
My bike Is a bit of a flashy ride... bright purple Norco XFR 3 with white handle bars.

The person sends me pictures... looks like my bike so we hop in the car to check it out on the other side of town. #yeg
(Maybe we should have called @EdmontonPolice but I always assume they have bigger fish to fry and also did not want to wrongly accuse someone of theft.) #yeg
The @stolenbikesyeg guy tails him and tells us where to find him. He’s stopped in a parking lot texting so I hop out and from a safe distance and kindly explain that I think the bike might be mine. #yeg
He didn’t argue or even get angry. He flipped the bike over, I read him my serial number and sure enough it was my bike. I said “no cops” and he said “ok, take your bike back”. #yeg
(He bought it for $25 from some guys at the West Ed parking lot in November... it was purchased new in 2016 for $750). #yeg
The gentleman who helped me recover the bike then pulled up. He said there’s a group in Edmonton with a passion for returning stolen bikes to their owners... so thank you @stolenbikesyeg. You are amazing! I’m so grateful. #yeg
They use info about stolen bikes from @bikeindex. So if you haven’t registered yours yet please know both our stolen bikes were recovered thanks to this database.

If you’re reading this I hope some good fortune also comes your way soon. Have a wonderful night.
