It was about this time 16 years ago that WOXY went off the air. I can say without a doubt that I would not be the person I am today without that radio station. @mattsledge @shivvy @tententsrecs @BarbAbney thanks y'all.
As fucked up as shit is right now, it's been fun to dive headfirst into the music of the early 2000s on my HD as a nice getaway. Above mentioned were my gatekeepers for so much great music.
WOXY was my first exposure to @TheNational , @arcadefire , @SondreLerche , and @johnroderick in TLWs, and so much fucking more. Interpol, Stokes, lcd Soundsystem. Jet. Do you remember jet? bc I try not to.
In a sea of chain restaurants and shitty music, there used to be one station that didn't suck. I'm sad my kids won't enjoy the pleasure of listening to @woxy like I did. But LIVE. LOCAL and INDEPENDENT will never die. Keep the flame alive!
They also indulged me as a young music journalist, giving me more of their time than the dude from rolling stone. They set up industry connections that are friends I still bullshit with today.
I was lucky enough to to close enough to Oxford as a dumb kid in west Chester. But I was taught that live, local and independent is the only way to go. And k hold that as my number 1 set of values to this day.
Don't wanna leave out @RedHawksVoice either. Guess you had to have had access to good radio to miss it.
