I guess it is offensive to the part of our brains that wants to construct narratives out of things, but it seems pretty clear that there’s a healthy dose of randomness involved in big Covid outbreaks.
I used this analogy before, but:

Driving home from the bar after a few drinks is an irresponsible and unwise risk, but it’s still more likely than not that you’ll make it home safe any given time you try.
