It's not controversial to say that people associating over common interests is almost always bad, it's actually just really dumb https://twitter.com/envinyon/status/1260298261585371137
People have historically bonded over common ground...... since we evolved higher form social interaction. We group ourselves naturally based on who understands our experience, and fandom is a microexpression of that
If you're angry about gatekeeping, by all means, be angry about gatekeeping, but to say that people bonding over a shared interest is "almost always bad" is..... an ice cold, bland take
Because that's just pinning the blame on people who literally just want to talk about their favorite stuff for OTHER people being assholes. Blame the asshole, not form of social bonding?
You don't see these really terrible hot takes about people who bond over being enthusiastic about sports, or over crafts, or over music - which are all the same concept as bonding in fandom
And also the implication that I have to like everyone in a community just because I belong to it is, uh. Bad. I belong to the LGBT community, do I like everyone there? Hell no.
We already have a concept for communities of people you like. It's called having friends. Fandom is an entirely separate thing, and just so happens to be how a lot of people find new friends to add to their social groups.
Maybe you were trying to make another point here, idk, but this tweet does not say anything meaningful.
