1. Good News on CoronaVirus

Based on a WSJ article, I am going to highlight a few wondrous things.

A new CNBC poll suggests that Americans are ready and willing to fight the coronavirus with common sense and without impoverishing government mandates.
2. Like many other such polls, it shows President Trump with underwater approval ratings for his response to the virus. But his 44% approval rating on virus response is much better than the 30% rating earned by Congress and the 37% rating for the federal government in general.
3. Doctors Deborah Birx and Anthony Fauci enjoy much better ratings than the President. Dr. Birx enjoys a 62% approval rating for her response to the virus while Dr. Fauci clocks in at a strong 71%.
4. These are impressive numbers to be sure, but not nearly as impressive as the 92% positive rating earned by doctors and medical professionals generally.
5. Also, state and local govt earns much higher marks than the federal govt. A full 62% of respondents approve of the virus response by state and local govt. That’s a nice number, but it’s not as large as the 79% approval rating Americans give their employers.
6. It seems that we trust our colleagues and the people who care for us to do a good job. And trust diminishes when we consider people who govern us from a distance. This seems entirely consistent with the ideals of the American founding, which by the way occurred in 1776.
7. The central idea of America's founding was that we can govern ourselves. On this score the poll finds high percentages of respondents employing various techniques to prevent the spread of infection, from avoiding crowds to wearing masks.
8. Nearly 244 years after the birth of our nation, it seems Americans are still up to the task. There is much to be optimistic about. We will get through this and come back stronger than ever.

God Bless America!

The End
