Looks like Tesla is being sued over early touchscreen failure in Model S and X. This might be a good time to revisit my story about those screens, some of the reasons they fail, and why no other automaker has 17 inch screens in their vehicles https://www.thedrive.com/tech/27989/teslas-screen-saga-shows-why-automotive-grade-matters https://twitter.com/SchadenCap/status/1260733654407446530
Tesla's story is packed with important lessons that illustrate the pros and cons of high tech startup culture and industrial manufacturing culture, but the touchscreen saga is one of my favorites. You can find more on this in the final chapter of my book: https://www.powells.com/book/-9781948836128
The fact that screen failure effectively disables a number of fairly core functions holds another lesson about failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA)... but I'm going to have to leave that lesson for others to explain.
