Hey y’all, I just wanted to take a minute to bring awareness to something so this is gonna be a serious thread

I wanted to bring some awareness to DiGeorge Syndrome, otherwise known as 22q11.2 deletion syndrome. Not many people know about it, and I wanted to educate y’all on it
My close friends will know this, but my little sister, Ella, has this condition. It’s always been hard for her, because no one understands her condition and what she goes through. Nobody her age wants to look past it and be her friend.
Growing up, She’s always had rude comments made to her by other kids making fun of how she talks and acts, so I just wanted to make this for her, to hopefully educate other people on Digeorge syndrome, so if you see this, share it with your family, especially younger siblings-
-so hopefully another kid like my little sister doesn’t have to deal with all of the bullying and rude comments.
Digeorge syndrome is caused by a defect in chromosome 22. The severity of it can vary, and it comes with a whole lot of symptoms that may or may not affect someone who has it. The most common symptoms include heart defects, cleft palate, poor immune system, and low calcium
Developmental symptoms may include delayed development, learning disabilities, short stature, or speech delay. In the muscles it could cause flaccid muscles or spasms, in the heart it can cause a congenital heart defect or a murmur,
in the mouth it can cause the failure of teeth to develop or a cleft palette. Some other common symptoms include speech impairment, difficulty understanding and thinking, and there’s a lot more too. All of this is just basic info from google so if you want to learn more, pls do.
My sister has never let any of her symptoms get in the way of her life. Her entire life, she’s been in and out of the hospital. First it was a heart murmur, then it was cleft palette surgery, next it was MSSA, she was hospitalized for that TWICE
It really sucks, only being able to see your mother and your sister through an ipad screen for months at a time, not being able to do anything while your sisters condition grows worse and at some point she goes septic.
In this pandemic, the one thing on my mind has been my sister. If she were to get sick with covid, she probably wouldn’t make it. Digeorge syndrome causes her to have a poor immune system, she can fight off the common flu, but not this.
So, I hope that you’ve had the patience to read this thread. Educate your younger siblings on this, your family, so a kid like my sister doesn’t have to get bullied because they can’t speak properly, and so they don’t get bullied just because-
-they aren’t like the other kids or because they don’t share the same mentality as the other kids. Educate yourself on this so a kid like my sister doesn’t die from a sickness that could have been prevented if you would’ve stayed home.
This is my sister, and she’s the best thing in my life, and my best friend. She’s the most energetic and nicest person you’ll ever meet and she has a heart of gold, honestly. All I want, is for more awareness to be brought to her condition-
-so no one else has to go through the bullying. Thank you for reading this, and I hope that by making this thread I’ve brought just a little more awareness. ❤️ Also, I apologize for any spelling mistakes if there are any, this has been a very long thread :)
