1. Yesterday wasn't a great day, but I did learn some things. I'm afraid it's inspired another thread. I'm afraid it's about Brexit, but it's necessary to talk about it despite #Covid19UK. In fact the pandemic makes it even more important.
2. First of all, there are a surprising number of ppl who think we can just stop Brexit. Unfortunately we can't, because it's happened. It's done. Focusing on that is a grave mistake and distracts from the actual fight we have ahead of us.
3. If we do not get an extension to the transition period, we will end the transition period with no deal. There is never a good time for that, but it's hard to imagine a worse one (famous last words). The deadline for requesting an extension is 30th June at the latest.
4. There are ppl who think we may be able to get an extension after that, but it's far from certain and would be dependent on every MS agreeing to it. As it stands, I doubt they will have either the time or inclination.
5. The UK economy shrank at the fastest rate since the financial crisis in the first quarter of 2020. That has nothing to do with the pandemic. The only factor left is our leaving the EU.
6. Last week I read the UK document (actually a wishlist) for an FTA with the US. That has convinced me even more that we must have an extension to the transition period. The deal with the US will not make up for the economic hit of leaving the EU. I'm worried.
7. Among other things, the proposed FTA with the US is estimated to decimate UK agriculture. We already rely on imports to feed the nation. We cannot afford to not have a deal with the EU.
8. What can we do? Well, after an interesting chat with @prutske_uk, I agree with her that we should all be writing to Tory MPs. Please don't @ me. Don't give up before you've tried. I believe many of the new Tory MPs may be more receptive than you think.
9. Many of them have had a baptism of fire in the first few months on the job. I'm sure some are disillusioned with the reality of their job and their party. Especially with the handling of #COVID19. Please find the time to write to them. Use actual paper of possible.
10. The other thing is sign every petition you see. Some of them form part of a bigger campaign, so your signature will support that.

It's awful that we've left the EU, but let's not wallow in the past. Lets focus on what we can to lessen the impact.

11. This is one campaign petition that you really need to sign. Please add other petitions to this thread. End https://twitter.com/march_change/status/1260703114706980864?s=19
