i’m gonna to be 100% honest and say i hate our current iq testing system & how society puts it on a pedestal bc it’s not technically an accurate test of intelligence
omg i’m gonna make this a thread SO

overview:

* what is intelligence?
* different theories of intelligence
* conclusion
intelligence =/= iq
they are not the same, they are not interchangeable so stop treating them as such.
now let’s get another thing straight:
there is no one-size-fits-all intelligence. emotional intelligence is not the same as academic intelligence. you can be smart in one
aspect but not too smart in another.

kinda like the terms “book smart, people smart, and streets smart”
you may be good with school but you might be shitty with socializing, or you might be good at socializing but find it hard to filter out a trust worthy circle
(this thread is american centric btw)

the current iq test we use rn is the wechsler adult intelligence scale, theres also one for kids.
this is how the test works.
here’s a little historical tidbit
this was like 1700-1800s i wanna say?? <- fact check me on this one

there was an iq test that came out in france and it was widely popular (binet-simon scale) and americans were like “!!! let’s fucking goooooo”
well the og french version would test you on common french words, keyword here is french. so when the test was brought to america, everyone scored so fucking low bc it wasn’t translated to english. ppl were getting quizzed on french words when they didn’t speak french
so then, when they americanized it, it was called the stanford-binet scale.
ppl took it so seriously that people would ask for someone’s iq before letting their kids get married to them. which btw, intelligence isn’t entirely genetic, it’s nature AND nurture.
another common misconception:
it’s not nature Vs nurture. they work together. you are a combination of your genes and experiences. intelligence is moldable. you CAN become smarter in any sense. you’re not going to be static for the rest of your life, you learn, change, and grow
