“You pick your friends, not your family” is a pretty sociopathic way of thinking about friendship if you think about. Or to put it another way, as TL1 says, “Stop it, you know thinking is bad for you”.

Autocorrect keeps changing my typo in “thinking” to “honking” and that’s the only wisdom in this thread.
