I didn’t really like how Kehinde Andrews handled the origins of the Gay Agenda in Back to Black but what can Cishet men do correctly tbh. So here’s a thread
Here is the exact passage from the chapter on Cultural Nationalism
He says we need to understand the roots of homophobia in the Black community and while trying to disprove myths he uses the myth of buck breaking as the origin of homophobia in the Black community
There’s a couple things wrong this. First off, homophobia does not just affect men. Second, rape does not have a sexuality.
Rape is about power and if niggas resent “gayness” because of white men raping them then why don’t they resent white women for most likely doing the same thing during slavery and getting them lynched during the Jim Crow era for even looking their way 🤨.
Another point to be made is that the Gay Agenda is white supremacist rhetoric. Something Black people have picked up from white supremacist patriarchy. White supremacists and Evangelicals have a history of spreading this message to colonized people across the world.
Black Cishet men and women are homophobic because they want to live up to patriarchal gender roles placed on us through colonization and slavery.
Lastly, this passage right here irked me. There’s tons of evidence that this is not the case and that rampant queerphobia comes from European colonization
Across the continent , many different gender identities and what we would call same gender relationships existed on the continent and were recorded by colonists which made them even more eager to push their Christian morals on us for so called sexual deviancy.
Sexual deviancy has always been attached to Blackness because colonizers built their strict sexual norms in juxtaposition to populations they set out to colonize and enslave, especially Black Africans.
These are the true origins of homophobia in our communities and it is not irrelevant.
