Stellarium is a freeware planetarium program. If you turn on "show exoplanets" and zoom in a little to the North-North-East, it gives you a lovely visualization of the results of pointing the Kepler space telescope in the same direction for almost ten years.
You can even see the neat spacing as they moved the camera from spot to spot to sample a new patch.

And that's what we found just via transit photometry - which mostly finds planets orbiting close to the star. Can't even see systems with orbital planes not edge-on to us.
In that one limited patch of sky alone, that's just a fraction of the planets actually out there - mostly big ones, mostly close to the star, and only in systems with the orbital plane edge-on to us.

Imagine how many planets there are in the closet 50ly *alone.*
