Here is a summary thread of today’s #COVID19AB update. 5,076 people have recovered leaving 1,211 active cases. 70 people are hospitalized with 11 of those admitted to ICUs. Out of 4,072 new test results, there were 62 new cases. (1/10)
An outbreak has been declared at Horizon work camp operated by Canadian Natural Resources. There are 5 confirmed cases linked to the camp. AHS is working with the operator to limit the spread & testing is being offered to all employees, including those without symptoms. (2/10)
I know the last few weeks feel like we have traveled a long & arduous road. While our journey is far from over, I hope that we can all take a moment today to recognize what we have achieved together. We should be proud for looking out for one another & saving lives. (3/10)
As we move into Stage 1, many are experiencing mixed emotions – relief, excitement, anxiety & fear. I feel confident that it's the right time to move into Stage 1. I want to assure you that we wouldn't jeopardize all that you’ve risked & sacrificed by reopening too early. (4/10)
Stage 1 allows businesses to open at the discretion of owners & operators. There is no directive for them to open on a certain day. If an owner determines they need additional time to protect staff & patrons, I encourage Albertans to be supportive and not critical. (5/10)
Guidance for businesses that outline measures to keep infection from spreading is available. We will continue to update guidance as we get requests & more information will be released as needed. (6/10)
My advice will continue to be driven by data. Since before our first Alberta COVID case, we have been closely monitoring & evaluating new cases, testing capacity, outbreaks, health care system capacity & severe outcomes. This will not change. (7/10)
If we need to provide government with advice to make community adjustments to the relaunch strategy, we will. This is evident in the gradual re-opening planned for Calgary & Brooks. This is a population measure, not an indication that all individuals have been exposed. (8/10)
I know this may be frustrating for some, but we ask you to be patient. Your safety remains our top priority. We encourage those in Calgary and Brooks to wait to access services in your communities on the upcoming opening dates, rather than travelling for services. (9/10)
We need Albertans to continue to do their part. It takes all of us to keep our infection rate low & prevent a surge in cases that would require us to consider restricting movement & businesses again. Our success is determined by the choices that each individual makes. (10/10)
