This story should be a teachable moment for anyone trying to investigate or understand this stuff. It matters if you are viewed on the same channels as these con-men. It matters if you don't call them out. It matters if you don't critique your own community. https://twitter.com/VICE/status/1260653560053633024
If you like this stuff, these stories and ideas, and even if you believe some of it or all of it, you need to attack stuff like this frequently and vociferously. The only way we get cool stuff and better groups is if you don't settle for the same old tired cons.
The reason other fields of inquiry progress and things like #UFOs do not, even with government support, is because of people like Goode and Wilcock. While true sciences build communities of working theory on critique and progression, pseudoscience never attacks its internal foes.
These ideas are laughable, until they become associated with you. You may think the followers of the Blue Avian Cult are fools, but when your own "best evidence" is on the time slot after a show they are heavily featured in, do you think the public can pick apart that nuance?
There are a LOT of smart folks into this. There have been since the beginning. But the challenge has always been that the crazy ones take up all the oxygen. SNUFF IT OUT BY NOT PAYING THEM TO BE AT YOUR EVENTS. Don't go on TV shows with them! If you want a better field, make it.
