Because I've got nothing better to do, here's a comparison of the UK twinings tea vs the US version. Mostly curious if the difference is all in my own head.
So, here's a US twinings breakfast tea (left yellow saucer) and a UK one (green saucer).
Their bags look identical.
Ah, but their brew time differs.
Made them both and honestly couldn't tell the difference (A is the American one).
HOWEVER. I liberated that "British" English breakfast tea envelope from a British airways lounge. No one in the UK drinks tea in envelopes because we drink too much tea. See qty differences.
And the tea in the big (proper) boxes comes in bigger bags. The envelope ones are 2g, but the proper bag is 3g.
And when I brew the "proper" tea I start to see differences. See how the US one (top) looks more grey compared to the redder one (milk added because that's how I take it and the diff seems more obvious)?
Sooooo... That's why I'm still buying boxes of loose tea bags in foil from the UK. Maybe @TwiningsUK can confirm what the blend variations are? Curious now.
I can't prove it, of course, but obviously they taste different to me. But maybe it's all up in my head!
