I'm seeing people dunk on *Hayek* because *Amash* is an idiot. Don't do this. It's even inappropriate to use this opportunity to dunk on libertarians generally. Short THREAD https://twitter.com/elongreen/status/1260654122048487425
In the Use of Knowledge in Society, Hayek talks about knowledge which is ephemeral, tacit, and/or inarticulable. In any case knowledge that can't be generalized easily. Pertinent scientific knowledge *is* generalizable and can be dictated centrally. https://www.cato.org/sites/cato.org/files/articles/hayek-use-knowledge-society.pdf
In the attached, Hayek says listen to the scientific experts who know the best general approaches for protecting ourselves from a very specific public health threat.

By contrast, we would want to leave to local actors say, how best to distribute masks or hospital beds.
Indeed, in this selection, Hayek argues that "the man on the spot" *cannot* rely on his intimate knowledge alone but needs to listen to public health experts to incorporate his knowledge into the broader social picture of the disease and how to minimize its spread and harms. /end
