Returning to this, @sambiedermannn, I believe, has noted that our politics can assimilate nothing other than essentially meaningless posturing over assumed and projected identities, when in fact the conflict is over who should have wealth & power. https://twitter.com/Econ_Marshall/status/1260653287948222464
Thus, a critique of this country's existing antitrust policy to the effect that it allows the capitalists to screw the rest of us over is met with "you're a hipster." Designed to make it impossible for others who would benefit from our program to identify with us.
Of course, fancy professors with senior political appointments in Democratic administrations have joined in this name-calling because that's also how they relate to politics, and they have no idea what else to do than punch left.
The point being: it doesn't matter that it doesn't reflect well on the people saying it (though it doesn't), b/c the whole point is to remove the debate to a playing field that is inherently more favorable to incumbent wealth and power, namely, name-calling & cultural affinities.
