my favourite animated movies: a thread
the king and the mockingbird, paul grimault, 1980

two lovers escape from a tyrannical king, helped by a talking bird. a film about love, revolution and the battle for freedom. a poetic and surrealist masterpiece, which inspired miyazaki and many others. an absolute classic!!
princes and princesses, michel ocelot, 2000

a compilation of six fairy tales inspired by different historical periods. a beautiful silhouette animated film with dreamlike stories, a real gem
castle in the sky, hayao miyazaki, 1986

a boy and a girl search for a lost floating castle while being chased by pirates, the army and secret agents. compelling characters and stunning scenery make for this magical movie with an antimilitarist and environmentalist message.
the rabbi's cat, joann sfar, 2011

a rabbi, his talking cat, an old arab sheikh, a painter and an eccentric russian millionaire leave algiers and go on a quest through africa for a mythical hidden city. a lighthearted movie about serious subjects, like religion and colonialism.
i'll finish this thread later ✨
the red turtle, michaël dudok de wit, 2016

a man is shipwrecked on a deserted island and encounters a red turtle, which happens to be much more than this, and changes his life completely. a very contemplative movie with incredible animation and music
