#kpopstansareoverparty
A thread of my opinion on kpop stan culture/twitter culture. If you are interested, I recommend reading until the end, as I try to make this as respectful as possible. I am not trying to intentionally bash anybody, but I have things to say.
1) #kpopstansareoverparty There is nothing bad about liking kpop, I love it. Its one of my favorite genres because of the liveliness and variety, but kpop stan culture is toxic. I do not consider myself a stan because of the origin of the word and how I personally view it.
2. "Stan", is a term that originated and became popular with the Eminem song "Stan" released in November of 2000. this song tells the story (a true story) of a man that claimed to be "his biggest fan". the verses build up to show how creepy/obsessive the "stan" behavior was.
3. Kpop stan culture, especially on twitter, is plagued with toxicity and unnecessary drama between fandoms. "locals" and kpop stans get into fights all the time, and quite frankly, nobody is winning at this point. Non-kpop stans and kpop stans bash each other for everything.
4. Another problem is fancams. I get it, and a lot of people get it, that you can just mute them, but it is unnecessary to post them all over twitter. It is fine if you want people to see them, but posting them on threads that have nothing to do with kpop is petty.
5. fancams are basically something that every person on twitter is aware of. but it is also not appropriate to post them on important threads or tweets. I am aware that kpop stans say that the people that post them in inappropriate places are not "true fans", but still.
6. Cancel culture as well is becoming a huge issue, as many of the "blank is over party" hashtags are created by kpop stans. For example, the "Joji is over party" tag. People only now figured out that he was FilthyFrank, but are too lazy to research the actual origin of him.
FlithyFrank was a character that was a representation of what people SHOULDN'T be. If you think I'm lying, or want an in-depth description, check the 'about' section of the channel. Joji is not tied down to the character, and he is not the character. He is a talented musician.
7. Kpop stans should not treat their favorites as their patron deities, or some god-like figure. they are humans like you, like all of us. this goes for all of stan twitter as well, YOUR FAVES ARE NOT GODS, DONT TREAT THEM LIKE ONE.
Once again, I understand that you can love a celebrity and what they do, and their music, etc etc. I love a lot of celebrities and I went through a phase thinking that they were all perfect when I realized that they have flaws too as all humans do.
8. I have already discussed the issues of kpop stans, but I would like to acknowledge that I know not all kpop stans are toxic. The majority of what we see that is trending is toxic culture, but I am well aware that not all stans/fans are like this. chill stan twitter, I see u <3
9. Kpop stans, don't push aside the opinions of non kpop-fans. You have the full capacity to educate them, or kindly discuss their thinking, and respect their opinions. not everyone is going to like kpop. especially when there is so much evident toxicity in the fanbase.
9. Locals, don't think you're safe too! Bashing people for what they like when it doesn't affect you isn't cash money! Claiming that "all kpop stans are toxic" is like saying "all non-kpop stans are toxic". Nobody is forcing you to like kpop, but at least respect the genre.
Also, Locals/non-kpop fans (i really don't like the term "local"), I recognize that a large majority are chill as well! Like with most fandoms, we only really see the toxic sides because they speak the loudest. y'all are Gucci *mwah*
10. for all non-kpop fans AND Kpop stans, engaging in discourse with one-another and posting fancams and claiming that "kpop is [bad term]", DOES NOT SOLVE ANYTHING!!! you guys can learn from each other. Toxicity doesn't solve toxicity.
This is the end of the thread. Again, I try to remain as respectful as possible to both sides. If you have made it this far, I thank you for taking the time to read this. be safe and wash your hands regularly!! <3
