I don't know what to make of the disconnect I see between articles saying the office is dead, we're never going back to downtown; and all the people I'm talking to and hearing from who are going nuts working from home
And it's not just parents with kids at home who are sick of WFH .... it's people who miss serendipitous interactions in the hallways, getting takeout from their favorite downtown vendor, etc.
I don't doubt that people who can, will stay home until the coronavirus risk passes. But once there is a cure/treatment/herd immunity/etc .... it seems to me that people will want the office back
It's possible that my perception of this is skewed by the fact that I and most of my circle live in cities, with a) manageable commutes; and b) relatively small living spaces that just are not set up well for WFH
If I had a home office and a commute that required a long drive (that is, if I lived in a far-out suburb), I'd probably be less excited about the return to the office
