Hey!
It& #39;s 70 years since the thing that was 70 years ago!

The 1950 British Grand Prix.

The 5th British Grand Prix, and the 3rd @F1 British GP @SilverstoneUK.

(If you include the & #39;48 RAC International Grand Prix.)
The 1950 RAC Grand Prix d& #39;Europe Incorporating The British Grand Prix was the first race of the new World Drivers Championship. The first Grand Prix world championship since the 1925-30 World Manufacturers& #39; Championship, that morphed into the 1931-39 European Championship.
The World Drivers Championship was more successful than it& #39;s predecessors, although it was forced to run to Formula 2 regs in 1952 & & #39;53.
It ran for 30 years, before it was replaced. The last round of the World Driver& #39;s Championship was at Watkins Glen in 1980.
From 1981, until Covid-19 stopped play in 2020, Grand Prix drivers & teams have competed for the FIA Formula One World Championship.
I look forward to hearing what @F1 have planned for next year, the 40th anniversary of their championship.
So happy 70th birthday, Drivers World Championship!
Formula One, you look good for almost 74!
...and hang in there, @F1... Life begins at 40!
