It doesn’t matter if Trump can’t explain “Obamagate” because in 2020 we still have headlines like “Kushner Won’t Rule Out Postponing Election.” Mainstream outlets are still uncritically laundering utter falsehoods in headlines with weak semi-rebuttals in graf ten.
The more criticism they get from Trump opponents, the more certain they are of this course. It’s validating to them. If dumb libs weren’t criticizing their coverage, they would fear they were veering too far left; what the facts are doesn’t enter into it.
If the right is hitting them, they better tone things down to be more neutral. If the left is hitting them, they know they’re on the right track. It’s a badge of honor; it affirms the fairness of their coverage.
