Like okay, let my talk about this other PC in our game for a second, and the absolute WILD NONSENSE that occurred re: some tarot cards the player decided to use as flavor.
You can actually watch this go down on https://twitch.tv/vanishxzone
There’s a YouTube channel as well. So okay.
Our tiefling bard, Samhain, who is lovely and clever and deeply empathetic as a character, had some tarot cards given to him by a friend who died in the explosion that serves as an impetus for our game’s premise.
So he comes into this game still dealing with that. But he decides to try out the cards, and since the player had an app for it, she decided to actually hold a reading.
Which turned out to be scarily accurate.
Then she did another reading for another character.
Also accurate.
The readings actually hinted at and predicted things the DM had planned for another campaign in the shared universe. They were eerily on point for other characters’ and NPC’s story arcs. It got a little alarming, but DELIGHTFULLY so
Somewhere down the line, the DM rolled with it.
Maybe this was planned all along, maybe not, but the accuracy of the reading on the app started to affect the PC. They became a conduit for creatures/beings beyond the planes to communicate with people on the other side. Then we found out other conduits like the PC existed before
And many of them did monstrous things. Became tyrants, destroyed empires, were used as tools of war and conquest. Conduits are regularly hunted down, and one of the other PC’s mentors, the head of the organization they’re all a part of, said a conduit would be better off dead.
Now this bard has to deal with people wanting to use him as a tool, people belittling his attempts at controlling his power, and the risk of being led astray by the beings he contacts on the other side. There is SO MUCH DANGER, and it all started with a simple card reading.
