I get that everyone is delighted that @UKLabour hasn't got a vicious antisemite embarrassing them every week at PMQS and @Keir_Starmer will feel great compared to they eye watering disaster of the last few years.
However a word of caution.
He's doing well.
For me though I feel frustrated. It's great to have a win at PMQS, let's face it watching a car crash though your fingers has been excruciating for years, but is it leadership?
The death toll in care homes is appauling, but the urgency is the opening up of society.
Today I wanted you to push him into a corner to make wearing masks on public transport mandatory. It will save thousands of lives in my city and for me it is urgent. Ditto the fact that public transport was not given adequate warning in time to organize.
Our country has shown it will do as it is told on the whole, everyone has made deep sacrifices and we want to feel proud of ourselves. Even my most labour friends understand our death rate is because we are recording differently. We need encouragement and inspiration.
We also need you to press on what was most urgent to save lives this week. For me in my city seeing people on tubes and trains without masks was shocking. It's something we can change at it will absolutely save lives.
Ditto slamming the government for putting our transport network in this position, @TfL in particular. Where is the amplification of @SadiqKhan message to wear masks? Where was the lead on schools?
Its clear that households under pressure needs to send their kids back.
It's also clear that those able to keep kids at home should until September. A widening of the key worker status would be more useful for our country than anything else. That needs pressing home, both to the government and to the teachers union.
We are, after all, in this together. We have the government we have because of the failure of @UKLabour. You want me to cheer a technical win? I wont. I will cheer on a win that changes how the public acts that saves lives.
I dont want anything but the best for our country.
Obviously this government is making big mistakes, but I want you to lead them, not just snap at their heels.
Can you do it?
You know as well as I do what is coming down the line for @UKLabour over #LabourAntisemitism, and so far you have said the right things...
But followed up with nothing. It takes nothing to be better than Corbyn, but to lead takes more than what you are doing. To inspire and bring in the vision of a better future takes more.
I have yet to be convinced you have it.
