If you're a writer and you have uninterrupted writing time right now, know that this is precious. I won't have anything remotely like this for the foreseeable future, with everyone at home all hours, and my own work deadlines difficult to meet just trying to write in the kitchen.
And then there is the running of an entire household, and the feeding of it, and the management of grocery orders, and sanitizing and washing everything as it comes in, checking to be sure the kids' lessons are being done, managing the finances...it's a lot.
On top of that there are the challenges of not having much social contact except virtually, and trying to stay healthy, and ensuring I have routines (which I figured out were absolutely necessary), and missing my loved ones back East that I cannot see anytime soon.
So when I see writers cranking out things all day long every day, I have to nod and say, well, good for you. It's not going to happen for me, and I want folks to know why it isn't and won't.
Then there's the "what comes next" because I was looking into returning to actual science, not just writing about it, and it is really looking like that won't be feasible either. So what to do? I just do the best with what I've got. Try to carve out a few minutes a day.
