The World Health Organization has said Coronavirus may end up being an endemic that we will all have to live with forever.

An endemic means the disease will be in some places like chicken pox in uk and malaria in some African countries.

We may just have to live with it.
Four other coronaviruses are already endemic in the world. They're all seasonal, and they typically cause mild common colds, though each of them can cause deadly life threatening pneumonia.

We don’t know enough yet about this Covid19 to say for sure though how it will play out.
The crucial thing we think about in terms of whether a virus is going to be endemic or whether it’s possible to eradicate it is whether immunity is permanent or long-lasting.

If immunity is temporary and someone can get reinfected, that is a very difficult virus to eradicate.
If we use the example of the other four coronaviruses that are currently endemic in humans, we know that the immunity we get is temporary. It disappears gradually over time — it takes years.

As an Adult you may get infected with the same flu virus that you once had as a child.
But even if it is this kind of temporary immunity we get from Covid19 exposure, it is good. At least in the short term.

Doctors who have already been infected can treat patients without worrying.

Same goes for other people.
Maybe we can open up businesses and live our lives.
And in this scenario:
Even if someone gets sick with the coronavirus again, the second infection might not be as severe.

At least we know from other viruses that even if someone is reinfected, their immune system might be better equipped to handle it the second time around.
