If we open the economy more people will get in cars & therefore more people will die from car wrecks.

Yet no rational person would blame a traffic death on our gov& #39;t re-opening.

Why is the mindset different w/COVID? https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤔" title="Thinking face" aria-label="Emoji: Thinking face"> https://twitter.com/ScottAdamsSays/status/1260622017205661697">https://twitter.com/ScottAdam...
2- I get that people could get symptoms, not get tested, and then infect Grandma.

But an unlicensed driver could also get in a car, get drunk, and hit Grandma as she is walking outdoors.

In both cases Grandma could eliminate risk by staying indoors and prohibiting visitors.
3- However, if Grandma stays perpetually indoors there are now health risks with her lack of mobility.

Also, this assumes Grandma has a food source (someone brings her food, she lives in assisted living, etc.).

If she doesn& #39;t have this, she must face cars. She must face COVID.
4- And so it goes. It& #39;s adult risk decisions we& #39;ve made forever. There are no silver bullets.

Worried about car accidents? Don& #39;t drive a car.

Worried about heart disease? Diet and exercise.

Worried about COVID? Minimzie engagement with other humans.

What am I missking?
5- Note that with cars, as with #COVID, gov& #39;t does take steps to increase safety:

- drivers license tests (COVID tests)
- seat-belt laws (masks)
- vehicle inspections (symptom tests, e.g. for a fever)
- traffic control systems (social distancing)
- Etc.
6- But... We don& #39;t ban cars.

Why? Because gov& #39;t can only do so much to ensure our safety, before the infringement on our liberties becomes too much.

For the same reason, we cannot continue to lockdown people.
