I don't think people realize yet how badly U.S. public universities are going to get clobbered, or how long-lasting the damage will be. I have a post about it coming out soon...

I don't want to be alarmist or histrionic, but I think it'll be bad enough that I wouldn't advise most people to pursue an academic career in the next decade.
