Why suddenly Atmanirbharta?

One explanation can be seen in the Brahmanical conception of “service without agency”. That “life must be devoted to selfless service, without desire for its fruits”,
karmanye vadhikaraste... /1

As Modi said, in his only published book Karmayogi, Dalits find spiritual bliss in performing the service of manual scavenging. This is how his world view has been shaped. Modi's actual quote was- I do not believe they have been doing this job just to sustain their livelihood. /2

Had this been so, they would not have continued with this kind of job generation after generation.... Modi continuous, 'At some point of time somebody must have got the enlightenment that it is their (Balmikis’) duty to work for the happiness of the entire society and the Gods;/3

that they have to do this job bestowed upon them by Gods; and this job should continue as internal spiritual activity for centuries.' That he did not directly talk to the poor, in any of his speech, speaks to the same idea of “service”: suffer for the nation without agency./4

Golwalkar gave a slogan - ‘sab jaati mahaan, sab jaati samaan’ (All castes are great and all castes are equal). This is the creed RSS promises to live by. Actually, in this lofty declaration, Golwalkar has not made any departure from the orthodox Brahmanist position /5

the idea that varnas (and castes) were the parts of same virat purush and hence equal.

What it truly means is that all the castes should perform their assigned tasks as their dharma. Valmikis should continue to scavenge. /6

Back to Modi, his addresses to the nation are never that. It is always an appeal to the brahamanical (some might say Hindu) sensibilities, the notion of self reliance should not exist in a society where there are multiple selves. /7

Idea of a nation is not a monolith, however much you want to treat it as such. Truth is, those people walking on barefoot cannot be asked to be self reliant, it is an assault on their dignity. Of course the people Modi talks to can afford self-reliance and even celebrate it. /8

This gross idea of self reliance in these times is essentially brahamnical vanity speaking through her vessel that's Modi. Same vanity that wants to build statues and copy west in thanking the health care workers without having the ability or forethought for anything concrete. /9

When Karnataka asked the migrant workers to stay back it was the same vanity at display. For them everyone else exists solely to serve them. Cook and clean for them, drive them around, grow food for them, abandon ancestral forestlands so they could be mined for their benefit. /10

What is vocal for local? Who is being talked to here? Again the consumer class, the big Indian middle class and I do not need to get into the caste composition of this group.

But it baffles me how everything that comes out of the mouth of Godhead echoes only to the God. /11

Marie Antoinette was at least ignorant enough to imagine that every one has cakes. Here by atmanirbhar or being vocal only for local, it is being told that we know you do not have anything but we do not care.
