Can everybody stop acting like the union advice is teachers throwing their dummy out because they don't wish to return? It isn't.
1. We are still working. Harder than ever, actually. Juggling homeschooling and other responsibilities alongside our day job, 1/1
which now involves so much more that we didn't do before, we are having to learn quickly and effectively to use technology and communication methods never really considered until the days before lockdown.
2. Schools are not closed. SLT, Teachers and support staff are in daily 2/
to support the care of key workers' children.
3. The unions aren't there for us to be defiant and political. They are there to ensure that we, the students and our communities are safe. The gov approach to returning is NOT SAFE.
4. We have always been one step ahead of any 3/
Gov advice. CEOs, trust leaders and heads were given such little notice of any important information, yet they worked tirelessly to make this work.

We are an incredible profession and my twitter feed has made me sad and furious today with the amount of divisive and accusatory 4/
tweets posted.
Nobody is refusing to do their 'duty', everybody has the right to be safe.
The DfE document explicitly states that we will not be given PPE, and that our primary colleagues cannot expect children to remain 2m apart. So how, in all of this, are people assuming 5/
that this is teachers 'kicking off'.

We all want to get back to 'normal'. We all want the gap to close. We live and breathe this day in, day out.

But we also don't want to put anybody at risk- us, our families, our students.

We have a duty of care to protect all involved. 6/
and that is precisely why people are concerned about the return and why questions are being asked.

Public servants serve the public. And if we truly deem it unsafe for schools to reopen given the guidelines available, it is our moral duty to speak up.
Teaching is our livelihood.
But these are ours and our students' lives that we must protect.

I have attended two students' funerals in my time as a teacher and it was horrendous.

The science is yet to be proven that children don't carry or get ill. The chief med and Sci
For the gov said that on Monday.

If it is safe, we open (as we are currently) to the remainder of pupils.

If is isn't, we maintain safety and we challenge.

Rant over.

We are all in this together. Stop judging. Stop accusing.

We are the most amazing team: let's work together!
