I get your point, but even as you do that, there is likely to be some sort of an internal dialogue/argument, right (as if several 'versions of you' are discussing a situation). Otherwise there would be no need to explore/change?
It's somewhat analogous to a concept of 'cognitive distancing' employed during CBT.
