Pathetic and embarrassing that people in positions with influence over youth so negatively regard jobs in aquaculture & agriculture- especially given the economic importance of these industries in the maritimes @NBSA_AENB https://twitter.com/JournalPEI/status/1260297729370140672
My dad is an incredibly successful dairy farmer in PEI, and he is also my food provider, mechanic, accountant, real estate consultant, and financial advisor. He & my mom taught me the importance of sustainability and environmental awareness. He has a college degree. @NBSA_AENB
My older brother owns and operates his own farm, largely without any help. He learned the skills needed for this from work experience on my dad's farm and formal education. He has a http://B.Sc . in Animal Science, minoring in Agricultural Business and Plant Science.
My younger brother, with his http://B.Sc . in Agricultural Business, works with my dad on his farm. He has 14+ years of work experience on my dad's farm and is one of the smartest, hardest-working people I know. He is financially savvy and incredibly efficient.
Some things I've learned from working on dad's farm: budgeting, animal care, time management, problem-solving skills, food security awareness, strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, sustainability practices, and perseverance.
When I was in the interview process for my current job, the HR rep said he "couldn't wait to meet me in person" after I told him I was working full-time with a pharmaceutical company and working on dad's farm on my days off. @NBSA_AENB
