Dear Pres #Ramaphosa

Nobody wants people to die.
Nobody is advocating recklessness. No human life is expendable.

But starving people & denying citizens the right to provide for their families is not going to cure the virus either.
I insist that the tragedy about the lockdown is that those setting the rules for our collective suffering are continuing their employment & earning their full salaries.

The urgency of the moment is not yet thoroughly distilled to them.
Unpopular Opinion: Government should consider retrenchments, a freeze on salary increases for ministers, directors & MECs + halting of tenders in an effort to save money & give the state fiscal space to respond to the virus.

Watch how quickly “they” would open the economy then.
South Africa has very clear race & class issues. And those are well known.

Many of us are doing the best we can to reduce that divide.

But I can tell you for free, reducing incomes for the poor doesn’t reduce inequality.

It worsens it.
