I was so excited to see that Zirui Song won the 2020 @SocietyGIM Junior Investigator of the Year award. Zirui is an incredible scientist, and has so many important papers already that it would be not surprising if he wins a mid-career research award next year! 1/
Zirui's brain is an incredible one to pick for just about any question. He grounds his analysis in first principles, and from that comes incredible insights about health economics that are delivered with utmost clarity and precision. 2/
What is my favorite paper of his? All of them. But this one with @jwswallace comparing how spending and prices change differ between Medicare and private ins using an RDD setup is a recent favorite: https://www.healthaffairs.org/doi/10.1377/hlthaff.2015.1195 3/
Beyond his research work, there is no one I know that can speak so intelligently about so many different topics. There is no one kinder and more giving, either. I always hold him up as an example for my students and mentees.
Congrats again Zirui! Fin.
