My take on the Indian Army Field Artillery Rationalisation Plan(FRAP):-

This plan was drawn up after the 1999 Kargil war.
In this plan, 2700-3600 artillery pieces are to be procured.
The categories are:-
1) 155/52 towed artillery:- 1580
2) 155/52 SPH:- 200+
3) 155/52 6x6 wheeled SPH: 400
4) 155/52 8x8 MGS: 814
5) 155/39 ULH: 645
1) 155/52 towed artillery:-
As indigenous options like ATAGS and Dhanush are available, ATHOS 2052 deal should be scrapped.
114 155/45 Dhanush are already on order, follow on order of 300 is likely to be placed.
Total: 414.
1,166 ATAGS should be procured for total of 1580.
2) 155/52 Self Propelled Howitzer:-
100 K9 Vajra are already on order of which 50 have been delivered.
Total requirement is 200+ to replace the Russian and British SPH in service.
IA should procure another 100 K9 Vajra built under license by L&T to replace the older SPH.
3) 155/52 6x6 Wheeled SPH:
Total requirement is of 400 guns.
If indigenous alternative is not developed on the 6x6 chassis, IA should go ahead and procure the French Caesar 6x6 SPH or Swedish Archer SPH.
4) 155/52 8x8 MGS:-
Total of 814 guns are to be procured in this category.
OFB has developed a MGS which features a 155/52 howitzer mounted on Tatra 8x8 chassis.
There is simply no need to look at foreign options.
5) 155/39 ULH:-
145 M777 ultra light howitzers are already on order.
MoD has expressed interest to buy 500 more ULH.
That makes a total of 645 ULH to be procured.
Kalyani ULH is better alternative to the M777 ULH as it will boost the indigenous industry.
Abbreviations:-
ULH- Ultra Light Howitzer
SPH- Self Propelled Howitzer
MGS- Mounted Gun System
