Marc Levoy& #39;s reported departure from Google is massive. He& #39;s the one that invented HDR+, which is quite literally the foundation of almost every groundbreaking smartphone camera feature over the last 5-6 years. http://andauth.co/Pixel4Camera ">https://andauth.co/Pixel4Cam...
Marc thinks about smartphone cameras as "What can computers do that hardware can& #39;t?". And computers are Google& #39;s specialty. They never tried to make a camera. They tried to make a magic image box that always delivered good photos. Auto mode everything. http://andauth.co/Pixel4Camera ">https://andauth.co/Pixel4Cam...
Of course, development is a multi-person project. Isaac Reynolds is another brilliant mind behind Google& #39;s camera features, and he is presumably still there. But I do wonder if the Pixel 5 will continue to bring innovation to cameras or move towards conventional means.
