Thinking about all the dudes who see a sport& #39;s value as directly proportional to their knowledge of it, i.e. women& #39;s basketball must be bad because "no one"/they don& #39;t watch it.
It& #39;s fascinating because despite superstar male athletes publicly declaring themselves women& #39;s sports fans (LeBron, Kobe), casual sports viewers will straight up tell you that women& #39;s sports aren& #39;t worth watching or even "real."
Usually the justification given is that women don& #39;t play at the same level (a wormhole I won& #39;t go down right now) but I rarely see that level of vitriol directed at, say, following your local high school football team or even watching Little League.
I& #39;m less interested in casting blame on individuals & more in how men are culturally appointed to be sports experts & internalize that to the point where their knowledge about a sport itself becomes a sign of that sport& #39;s value.
Also all my favorite men talk about women& #39;s sports with respect, even if it& #39;s in a passing "oh that& #39;s cool" way & I wish more guys took advantage of this objectively attractive personality trait that you can have for free!
