Thinking about all the dudes who see a sport's value as directly proportional to their knowledge of it, i.e. women's basketball must be bad because "no one"/they don't watch it.
It's fascinating because despite superstar male athletes publicly declaring themselves women's sports fans (LeBron, Kobe), casual sports viewers will straight up tell you that women's sports aren't worth watching or even "real."
Usually the justification given is that women don't play at the same level (a wormhole I won't go down right now) but I rarely see that level of vitriol directed at, say, following your local high school football team or even watching Little League.
I'm less interested in casting blame on individuals & more in how men are culturally appointed to be sports experts & internalize that to the point where their knowledge about a sport itself becomes a sign of that sport's value.
Also all my favorite men talk about women's sports with respect, even if it's in a passing "oh that's cool" way & I wish more guys took advantage of this objectively attractive personality trait that you can have for free!
