Remembering Dr Heshmat Taleqani- a physician and close friend of Mirza Koochak Khan. He died on this day in 1919 at the hands of the decieving Shahs court due to his role in the Jangal Movement. His death gave birth to the short lived Republic of Gilan and long living resistance.
Various rebellious groups in the 60/70s took inspiration from the group- one in Isfahan adopted the name Jangalis. Gilan, with the key role of Dr Heshmat, grew to be a star of resistance. After the 79 revolution, statues were put up in Gilan in his honour. May he rest in peace
There are many excellent pieces of art and music about the group. This is not the most famous adaptation- but it is an excellent one nonetheless which adresss Mirza Koochak Khan and the other martyrs of the group.
They will forever remain heroes of resistance in a time when Iran had been dominated by imperialists, had their constitutional revolution suprressed, with Tsarist killings, and multiple coups+invasions which furthered famine. One of many in their time-Rest in Peace Martyrs
