Fox's primetime hosts, particularly Tucker Carlson, have gone after Fauci before. But last night was a major escalation. https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/fox-cabinet-trying-get-fauci-fired
One of these people is credited with talking Trump into taking the coronavirus seriously. Another has been described by Trump aides as the shadow chief of staff. The third was at the White House twice last month to advise the president on his coronavirus response.
They seem to be on a mission to force the top infectious disease expert’s removal from the administration amid an ongoing pandemic that has already killed more than 80,000 Americans, and may have enough influence over the president to succeed.
When Tucker Carlson says of Fauci, “Is this the guy into whom you want to vest all of your trust? Is this the guy you want to chart the future of the country?” you should understand that he's speaking directly to President Trump and it is very very clear what the answer is.
Lots of people try to use Fox appearances to speak directly to the president, but no one is as canny in their presentation as Carlson.
