I once had a woman postdoc supervisor who suggested I use more exclamation marks and smilies in my emails so I didn't come off so abrasive. I think about that a lot!

Dear Twitter, I would love to tell you I told her exactly what I thought of that suggestion but sadly, I did not. Even the most feminist of us can't always afford to say what we want, best I could do is work to create a culture where no one else has to swallow such bullshit
