STEREOTYPING: A SUBTLE AGENT OF DISCORD.

Stereotyping is one of the toughest challenges people face whenever they leave their ethnic domain in search of love, greener pasture, social affiliation, etc. In the past and even until now, many people have been victimised...THREAD!

For instance, some people will say Àkúrẹ́ women don't stay long in their husbands' houses, Òndó and Ọ̀wọ̀ women are promiscuous, Àkókó people are too fiendish, Ìkálẹ̀ men are polygamous, Ìjẹ̀bú are wicked, Abẹ́òkúta are too dangerous... 2
Ìbàdàn women are dirty while their men are cheats, Ọ̀yọ́ are too local because of their ascent whenever they attempt to speak English, Osogbo and Ìjẹ̀sà people are too traditional, to mention but a few......... 3
Perusing through the course of history, we'll discover that our progenitors created such stereotypes in order to discourage inter-tribal marriage due to past feuds that had taken place between/among most renowned Yorùbá cities and towns those days..... 4
As their progenies (learned and enlighten as wee are), we shouldn't help spread stereotyping people.

It will interest you to know that many Ìbàdàn people do not want to have anything to do with Ìjẹ̀bú people talk less of marrying them (your guess is as good as mine)....... 5
Let me not bore you with the Ilé Ifẹ̀ and Mọdákẹ́kẹ́ longstanding war that has claimed many lives and property.

I'm not oblivious of the fact that many people have preference when it comes to choosing a partner........ 6
Biko, don't change your mind because hàntí/bùọ̀dá lágbájá is from Zombi Town. You better shoot your shot.

No mater where you choose to marry from, there will always be at least, one stereotype that is associated with the people........ 7
Many people have lost their jobs, contracts, life changing opportunities, denied of marrying their missing bones, denied visas at the embassy, etc because of this malaise.

YES! I agree that every tribe or ethnic group has black sheep however, we shouldn't because of the.... 8
...mistakes of few misguided elements fall into the fallacy of hasty generalization.

No tribe/ethnic group is totally bad or evil.

May God deliver us from the evil of stereotyping people and grant healing to those who have been affected by it. Amen!
