I realize that these people are absolutely allergic to conceiving of themselves as having basic civic obligations towards other human beings but the mask mostly protects others, not you.
Stop being afraid of everything, but also I need five guns on me at all times in case I see a black teen doing something suspicious.
If you doubt the framework of the racial contract, observe how these same people discuss risk to life and civil liberties when it comes to policing, terrorism, or immigration. No restriction is too punitive.
It’s not hypocrisy. It’s ideology. Their lives are inherently worth extraordinary measures to protect, especially when the burden is borne by others. Yours are not, especially if it results in mild inconvenience, or slight social pressure to act responsibly.
