This is utterly meaningless.

O Level grade =/= ability to teach English.

LIMPEI TELL YOU WHY

Needless to say, your English ability at in your teenage years is far from reflective of your language ability ten years later. It& #39;s pretty bizzare that we constantly talk about lifelong learning but assess people& #39;s abilities as if they don& #39;t change.

2/
You could literally have done decades of learning but it doesn& #39;t count to these places because you won& #39;t fit in their marketing slogans designed to attract parents who want tutors with the qualifications.

3/
But in any case, your grade is mostly a reflection of langauge accuracy, i.e. how you spell, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. Guess who has a "learning disability" that causes them to constantly make those kinds of errors?

4/
But teaching English is entirely different skill set from being accurate (or playing the guessing games of comprehension). There& #39;s some truth to the idea that for those for whom these skills come naturally, they won& #39;t actually be able to explain how to acquire those skills.

5/
I& #39;d say most people who teach English have no idea how to teach it and assume everything happens by intuition. There are skills that can be taught for both reading and writing and they need to be broken down a lot (e.g. planning, learning to find words, editing etc)

6/
Not everyone who can write can teach those skills, not to mention the fact that if you consider different ability groups, they need completely different sets of skills to improve. Naturally good writers are likely to be able to point out mistakes, not explaining then.

7/
But this is really a problem at the core of education (vis a vis capitalism) that education itself primarily is aimed at developing human capital and thus requires individuals who have proven their worth as human capital via qualifications rather than actual ability to teach
